How to make a gentle whale-pattern zipper pouch (Handmade whale zipper bag with a warm, cozy feel)
How to make a zipper pouch using a warm whale-pattern fabric. (Diy pouch bag with zipper.) A handmade pouch with a gentle feel, featuring a whale design on a white background.
Making a handmade pouch is relatively simple. The first step is to sew the outer and inner fabrics to both sides of the zipper. Next, stack the fabrics and sew all around, leaving an opening for turning. The final step is to turn the pouch right side out and close the opening. This completes your handmade zipper pouch.
The finished zipper pouch can be used practically for storing small items, and it is also a piece you can enjoy simply by looking at it. By making it while considering the pattern’s direction and placement, the pouch becomes one you grow attached to. The finished whale-patterned zipper pouch measures approximately 11cm in height and 14cm in width.

Materials for the whale-patterned zipper pouch (Whale zipper bag making materials)
For the outer fabric of the whale-patterned zipper pouch, you need two pieces measuring 13cm × 17cm each (including seam allowances, with fusible interfacing attached to the back).

Applying fusible interfacing gives the fabric more stiffness, helping the zipper pouch (zipper bag) keep its shape.
For the lining of the whale-patterned zipper pouch, you need two pieces measuring 13cm × 17cm each (including seam allowances).

The zipper (zipper for bag making) is a single 14cm metal zipper.

Fold the ends of the zipper tape – the top tape end and bottom tape end – into triangles and stitch them in place. When making a zipper pouch (pouch bag), finishing the ends of the zipper can make sewing a bit easier. It also has the advantage of giving your handmade zipper pouch a neater appearance.

Fold the ends of the zipper tape (the top tape end and bottom tape end) so that they do not extend into the seam allowance of the pouch (pouch bag). If the zipper ends overlap the seam allowance, it adds bulk, making sewing more difficult and affecting the finished appearance.
Sew the zipper to both the outer fabric and the lining of the whale-patterned pouch (How to attach the zipper to the pouch bag)
1. Sew the outer fabric of the whale-patterned pouch to the zipper, right sides together.

2. After that, place the lining right sides together and sew it in place.

Attaching the zipper can make or break the finished look of your pouch (bag). If you don’t know how to attach a zipper or find it tricky to sew, check out this article. It explains the steps in detail.
3. Fold back the outer fabric of the whale-patterned pouch, press with an iron, and then topstitch along the edge.

4. Sew the outer and lining fabrics to the other side of the zipper in the same way.

Sew the outer fabric and lining together to finish the whale-patterned zipper pouch
1. Place the outer and lining fabrics right sides together and sew around the edges. (Leave an opening of about 5cm unsewn for turning.)

The area with the attached zipper is thicker, so you need to be careful when sewing.
2. Cut the corners of the pouch fabric and press the seam allowances open.

3. Turn the pouch right side out through the opening, then close the opening. This completes the whale-patterned zipper pouch (zipper bag).
