How to sew a hip pack (vintage style) sewing pattern is not necessary

Today’s handcrafted goods is “DIY vintage style hip pack".

Materials

Outer body fabrics, 20cm by 14.5cm are 2 pieces. (Seam allowances are included, attach interfacing)

Fusible interfacing gives fabric firmness, and keeps shape of hip pack.

Outer gusset fabrics, 5cm by 20cm are 2 pieces. 5cm by 14.5cm is 1 piece. (Seam allowances are included, attach interfacing)

Inner body fabrics, 19.5cm by 14cm are 2 pieces. (Seam allowances are included)

Inner gusset fabrics, 5cm by 19.5cm are 2 pieces. 5cm by 14cm is 1 piece. (Seam allowances are included)

Flap fabrics, 14cm by 14.5cm are 2 pieces. (Seam allowances are included. Attach interfacing to patterned fabric.)

Pocket fabrics, 14cm by 14.5cm are 2 pieces. (Seam allowances are included)

Velcro tapes (hook and loop fastener), 2.5cm by 4cm.

Acrylic webbing, 2.5cm by 9cm.

Make outer fabrics

1. Lay the pocket fabrics with right side, and sew the top seam. Then press seam allowances open.

2. Turn inside out, and stitch the edge.

3. Sew the pocket fabric and velcro tape (hooks) together.

4. Baste the outer and pocket fabric together.

5. Baste the other outer fabric and acrylic webbing (fold in half) together.

Make gusset

1. Sew the side gusset and bottom gusset with right side together. (Don’t sew 1cm from the edges.)

2. Press seam allowances open.

3. Sew the other side of gusset, do the same way.

4. Inner gusset, do the same way.

Sew the outer fabric and gusset together

1. Sew the gusset and outer fabric with right side together. (Don’t sew 1cm from the bottom edge.)

2. Sew the other side of gusset, do the same way.

3. Sew the bottom and outer fabric with right side together. (Don’t sew 1cm from the edges.)

4. Sew the other side of outer fabric, do the same way.

5. Cut off extra cloths. (bottom side and pack mouth side.)

6. Press seam allowances open.

Make pack body (inner)

Sew the inner pack, same way as the outer.

Make flap

1. Sew the right side of plain fabric and velcro tape (loops) together.

2. Lay the flap fabrics with right side, and sew the side and bottom.

3. Cut off extra seams, and press seam allowances open. Then turn inside out.

4. Stitch the edge.

Sew the outer and inner together

1. Sew the outer pack body and flap together.

2. Insert the inner pack into the outer pack, with right side together. Then sew around. (Leaving 7cm open for turning.)

3. Press seam allowances open. Then turn inside out, and iron.

4. Stitch the edge of pack mouth. It’s done.
